Food Delivery
Designing a new app to make food delivery more accessible
Project Overview
I designed a food delivery app that aims to better meet the needs of people who are not satisfied with the current apps. Through user interviews, wireframing and prototyping, usability testing, and synthesizing my findings, I was able to create something that invites that segment of the population to the table and makes the experience of food delivery apps a more inclusive one.
Planning Phase
User Interviews
Utilizing the directed-storytelling method, I initiated casual conversations about users’ feelings and experience surrounding food delivery apps. Interviews were conducted remotely and lasted anywhere between 15-30 minutes. I began each Zoom session with the open-ended question: Tell me about a time you used a food delivery app. I was not looking for specific information, and I did not have an idea or concept in mind, aside from creating a new food delivery app.
Hope Community Usability Review
Synthesizing the Research
I synthesized my findings and identified key insights, which led to the formulation of a user goal. This goal statement guided the whole design process: The user group is adventurous eaters who want access to a diverse, affordable selection of food options through a food delivery service that is easy to use, reliable, and benefits the local economy.
Synthesizing the research
Affinity diagramming was used to group user insights based on commonalities. This led to identifying overarching themes that helped with uncovering where the greatest needs were for improvement.
Key Findings and Recommendations
Language in the navigation menu should be made to be more clear and descriptive so that users can quickly locate information about Hope Community programs.
Features should be added that allow users to sign up for volunteer opportunities and enroll in programs directly from the website, and link audits should be performed regularly to ensure that links to external sites are functioning properly.
A clear and concise mission statement with accomplishments listed should be placed in a position of prominence so that users have a clear understanding of what Hope Community is.
Conclusion
Reflection
Focusing on the usability of a website gave me the opportunity really focus on the research and how to help the organization move forward in the best possible way. It is my hope that the recommendations provided to Hope Community, if put into effect, help them attract more members of the community as well as potential volunteers and donors by allowing them to be informed and take action through the website.
